About this place
A short walk north from the bustling grounds of Senso-ji, Asahiyama Soba sits in Asakusa 6-chome, preserving the unpretentious warmth of Tokyo's traditional shitamachi quarter. Run by an elderly couple, the dining room has table and counter seating where visitors can settle in for a relaxed, low-key meal.
The soba here features smooth, slender strands that pull up effortlessly, pairing naturally with a dipping sauce balancing assertive dashi stock and a rich, rounded profile. Cold options range well beyond straightforward mori soba, chilled hiyashi tanuki, and tempura ten-zaru; variations with hearty toppings and warm dipping broths include tori seiro with chicken and curry seiro.
Those craving hot noodles can turn to comforting staples such as kashiwa nanban with chicken, aromatic curry nanban, or piping-hot nabeyaki udon simmered in an earthenware pot. Rice bowls are equally dependable, with katsudon pork cutlet, oyakodon chicken and egg, and curry don available whenever a heartier grain dish is in order.
The easygoing temperament of the shop makes it a comfortable stop whether for midday lunch or a relaxed evening drink. Note that payment is cash only, so having yen bills or coins ready before sitting down is advised.
